Look at the face on the bird on the left!  I cannot, under any circumstances, look at this and not laugh.

What's a little thing you do every day that brightens the lives of those around you?

I don't know about every day...but today my coworker and I are making cookies for the notoriously grouchy IT helpdesk guys, to thank them for our recent bounty of software upgrades, extra fonts, and badass new 19-inch flatscreen monitors.  Laura's even bringing in one of those adorable baskets with a cloth towel inside that you're supposed to fold over baked goods.  (I wish I had one of those things!)  Don't know how it's going to go over, but hey...everyone likes cookies.  Everyone.

What'll I do
when you are far away
and I am blue
what'll I do?

What'll I do with just
a photograph
to tell my troubles to?

When I'm alone
with only dreams of you
that won't come true

what'll I do?

You know who YOU are [Feb. 15th, 2009|11:18 pm]
[Current Mood |indescribableindescribable]

To you:

- Put down your wineglass.  C'mere.
-5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables...isn't nearly enough space.
-Pretty soon, Steven A. Bagen's going to have to move to the bottom of the fridge.
-Baby alpacas with bunny tails holding Precious Moments cards.
-Jimmy Buffett doesn't know how lucky he has it.
-I am always, always, wearing invisible, metaphorical bells.

Ditto.  Likewise.  Infinity times infinity times a kazillion to the seventh power.

Persnickety, flibbertigibbet, lollygag—some words are just more fun to say. What's your favorite word?

Turnip...trout...trousers...bonus...make me laugh.

My favorite word of the moment is "antimacassar" though.  Not many opportunities to use that in a sentence, but there you have it.

Kurt Vonnegut's books have great titles, like Breakfast of Champions and Slaughterhouse Five. If your life was a novel, what would the title be?

It's the anniversary of the Russian Revolution, marking the Marxist overthrow of the Russian government. Karl Marx once wrote that "religion is the opium of the people." What is the new opium of the people?

The Hound of My Dreams [Aug. 27th, 2008|09:16 pm]
[Current Location |Cloud Nine]
[Current Music |"Hound Dog]

I'm so excited...and I just can't hide it.   All three people who read this pitifully sporadic blog-diary-journal-thing know that I've been dreaming of a droopy-faced long-eared companion of my own for quite some time. For the past month, I've been in a rather drawn-out back-and-forth with Suncoast Basset Rescue.

As of this Saturday, I will be the proud owner of an adorable 18-month-old purebred Basset Hound named (at least for now) Bernie.  Bernie's housebroken, crate trained, and coming with his own doggie bed, crate, toys, and shots in a month or so courtesy of the rescue.  The adoption coordinator who did my home visit is bringing him Saturday afternoon.

Is he not the cutest thing on four legs?  Wook at his wittle face!  Although I have not decided on a new name for certain, I am leaning strongly toward Rufus.
